Armed Forces Day 2019

Armed Forces Day

There are only three days to go before this years Armed Forces day. Veterans Hearing Support is happy to announce that we will be attending three events.

On Friday the 28th of June, the day before Armed Forces Day, we will be at a flag raising event at midday. The event will be hosted by Daventry Town Council at the Twinning Area at the top of London Road . Afterwards we will be attending an Afternoon Tea.

The special free Armed Forces Day Afternoon Tea will be at the New Street Centre. You can find it next door to Tesco in Daventry town centre from 12.30pm to 4pm.

Organisations including DDC, Daventry Town Council, Daventry and District Welfare Foundation, Daventry New Street Café, Daventry’s Royal British Legion and Daventry & District Forum have come together to co-ordinate the activities, which have also benefited from a £750 grant from DDC’s Local Lotto Community Pot.

Councillor Chris Millar, Leader of Daventry District Council, said: “We are honoured to work with our partners to show our collective support for Armed Forces Day, which pays tribute to the British Armed Forces community for their hard work, dedication and efforts to keep us safe both in the UK and globally.”

Gloria Edwards-Davidson, Chair of The Daventry & District Forum (DDF), said: “It is important that we value veterans of all ages across Daventry and District, together with those who currently serve, their families and carers. Their quality of life and sense of self-worth can be enhanced by signposting them to supportive agencies as we recognise their valued input to our country.”

Saturday 29th June

We will be at two events on the Saturday, at Manchester and Macclesfield.

The Manchester event is taking place in St Peter’s Square and will have plenty of activities for all ages. The activities will be military-themed with visitors being able to sit in the cockpit of a real RAF Jet Provost cockpit. They can also wear real military kit, try their hand at radio communications, discover Armed Forces cooking and enjoy a range of stage music. There will also be military hardware on display along with multi-media displays celebrating the diversity of the Armed Forces. As with previous years the Lord Lieutenant will open the event and inspect a parade of veterans and service personnel.

The Macclesfield event starts at 11am with a Forces and Veterans Parade around the Town Centre. Cheshire’s Silk 106.9 DJ Darren Antrobus will be hosting from the live stage with local bands, dance groups and entertainers. There will also be an OPEN MIKE, so get in touch if you want to perform!

There will also be vintage military and emergency vehicles, all sorts of stalls, and it’s generally a fun family day out.
